Making Progress in Polarized Times
The idea 💡 I suggest is about making progress in polarized times.
It is a workshop for the Obama Leaders Network on how to navigate polarization at a personal, professional and societal level. And a space for us to gather and strategize as a global community on how to unite to make progress in our polarized times.
Content:
It's a learning experience followed by a collective thinking/strategizing session.
There would be some theory and tools on understanding values and identities, integrative negotiation.
In addition, participants will take part in a simulation based on a political crisis that happened in recent History. After fictionalizing the name of the country and key stakeholders, participants will play the roles of historic parties and will have to navigate political division, assassinations, national security threats, street tensions to avoid chaos or worse, civil war.
After the simulation ends, the name of the country and real stakeholders will be revealed and the group will debrief on the simulation's outcome vs what happened in reality and draw lessons from their experience. 💫
Following the simulation, we will use the space we would have created to reflect on what we can do as OLN global community to make progress in our current polarized democracies. Some suggested questions to chose from as main priority discussion topic could be:
- What are our common global priorities to strengthen democracy?
- Can we build a strategy to face populism, far-right groups?
- Where are the opportunities to act together to preserve the planet, provide dignified living conditions and rights to the marginalized, and have a critical mass of underrepresented groups in politics?
- Any other big question suggestiis welcome
I hope some of you will like this idea and would be excited to take part in it 💖
